Roadtrippin' it!

Goodbye snow, hello 60 degree temps!

Josh and I are here in Louisiana for Christmas, and will head out for Texas on the 28th to spend some time with Josh's side.  We're super excited to be able to spend time in the south and may not go back to Indiana.

I hope ya'll had a great Christmas!

I'll have a bunch more to show when we get back to Indiana, but this is a cute one of two of my favorite boys!  J and Andre' (my bro) from Christmas day!

Fill in the blank Friday!

Happy Friday ladies!  Sadly I will be working this weekend, but for all of you off have a great weekend!

I'm linking up with Lauren today!

1. The holiday season is coming up so soon!  It's such a great time to spend with people you love the most, decorating, celebrating, and just having fun!

2. Snow makes me  NERVOUS!  This is my first winter with snow, so while I'm excited, I'm nervous to drive in it.    J and I will be the only looney tunes out in the snow playing like children I'm sure...
3. The best comfort food to eat when it's cold out is chili...or mac n' cheese.  Yum...makes me want to eat some now!

4. Winter is the best time for snuggling! I love piling under  blankets by the fire with my coffee.  Oh, and if I had a gorgeous bay window, I'd probably stare out of it for hours looking out at my acres of rolling hills ;).

5. I can hardly wait for my week off between Christmas and New Years.  THANK YOU LORD.  I can't even express how excited I am.  Josh and I are road tripping to Texas and Louisiana to visit fam and friends :).  I think my heart is going to explode when I see everyone.
6. When it comes to holiday gifts I prefer to give them!  Well, chances are you're  probably getting a gift card.  I KNOW, that sounds awful, but unless I know exactly what you want I'd rather get you something practical.  Ugh, does that make me boring?  ;)
7. If I were to rate my excitement about the holiday season on a scale from 1-10, I would say Um....27??  HA

                                                                        IN OTHER NEWS....

Ya know that saying, "Sometimes you feel like a nut?"

I was the nut yesterday friends.

Turns out 2 hours before my shift started, I realized my keys were locked in Josh's car.  Yep.  That means I was in total panic mode and sweating bullets.

I called J 50 times and and thankfully he left his car at his coworkers house (he lives about a mile down the road)...

Which meant I was left walking a mile and a half down the road (in a time crunch) to his coworkers house to get my keys out of his car, drive back to our apartment, and then rush to work.

I can tell ya that the experience was NOT a pleasant one.

At least I didn't have to work out today.....

Le Sigh.

Christmas decorating

Ahhhh!  Along with 12344554323 other folks, Christmas is my favorite holiday.  I was very blessed growing up and have such great memories of putting up the Christmas tree.  We would all play Christmas music, decorate, drink hot chocolate, etc.  I will always look back on those memories and smile.  Now that I'm married, I look forward to the new traditions and memories that I'll make with my new little family.

Here are a few pics for Josh and I's past Christmases:

Don't mind us, we just got back from our vacay in St. Tropez.  Ok, not so much.  We look a little oompa loompa ha!

Our little helper!  Every night he lies under the tree now and chews on his bone for hours...cuteness overload!

Nothing too fancy, but I love it nonetheless!  Oh, and everything for $100 dollas!  BOOM! :)

Quick Holiday Recap!

Love love!

I hope ya'll had a FABULOUS Thanksgiving and weekend!  Josh's bro and sis-in-law (and bambino) came to spend Thanksgiving with us and we were super excited!  Considering I didn't think about the Thanksgiving menu until practically Wednesday night, (procrastinator party of 1) I think our dinner came out fantastic!

Everything turned out great, and we had a yummy first Thanksgiving "in charge".

Airplane anyone??

Saturday we decided to hop on the train and head to Chicago to do some holiday exploring.  Unfortunately it was a HOT mess outside, but we all soldiered on and had a great time nonetheless.

                                                                      Pizza pizza!

Can I just say how amazing Chicago is with all of the Christmas lights and holiday decor?  It's such an awesome feeling, and J and I will definitely be down there at least 10 more times before Christmas is over!

Weekend Words

It's that time ladies!  I'm linking up with Miranda over at Aimless Translation!

Here are my weekend words:

I don't know about you guys, but reading quotes really inspire me.  Sometimes all it takes is a few quotes and I feel better after a bad day.  I mean not ALL days...but some. That may sound silly, but it's the little things...ya know?

Funky Monk

Monday was just one of THOSE days....

Do I know why?  Nope!  Just was...

In honor of the funky Monday I have a few confessions...

1. I was in bed by 8pm last night.  NOTHING was accomplished after work yesterday.  I came home, took a shower and stayed in my pjs 'till bed.  I didn't even stay up for my beloved Housewives.

2. I am cooking dinner for Thanksgiving for the first time EVER and I have NO CLUE what to cook.  Oh, well besides a turkey...(J's company gave him a free one).  Panera Bread is on speed dial.

3. I have yet to go to the grocery for any items on our make believe non-existent menu.

4. I don't even like Thanksgiving.  I know.  I do not have a soul, and I feel bad saying that out loud.

I AM excited that Josh and I are spending T-Giving with a little bit of family.  Josh's bro and sis-in-law are coming from Ohio to spend our first T-Giving away from all family.

Winter? Is that You?

So, clearly it isn't winter yet...

But anything below 45-50 degrees to me is considered winter.  And it is well below 50 now (well, for the most part....) and will most likely be 'till April.

  Ay yi yi.

I feel so ill equiped to survive the winter lol.  Dramatic much?

Black ice?  Snow?

It snowed the other day, and I totally stood outside of my car at 12am in the hospital parking lot secretly panicking because my handle to my car was frozen shut.  After a few tugs and a few curse words it decided to open.

So, I have compiled a wish list of things I need this winter.  Some a joke, some not so much.

Too much?

Kids, keep away from the frickin' serial killer look alike in the neighborhood.

Can't forget one for the Hucky.

Okay, now for some gear that I really want

I'm a little scarf obsessed

The following few things are from Kitty Dune on

I love this look.  Chunky socks that peak out of the tops of your boots.

And....some snow boots...

..... last but not least Josh is having the remote startup feature installed in my car so I can start it up without dying of frost bite from waiting to warm up.  Thanks for looking out for me boo.

The shark, a pizza recipe, and a little coffee shop relaxation...

(I'd just like to thank you guys for your sweet emails and comments about Kate.  Made my day :))

So.  You  know you're officially "old" when......

.....You squeal a little when you purchase a new household item (i.e. The Shark= dog hair's worst enemy.)

exhibit A:
Not sure why this pic is sideways...sorry!

.......You'd rather stay at home makin' homemade pizza and watching movies then going to the bar.

exhibit B:

I have to share this recipe with ya'll.  It turned out AMAZING.

Mediterranean Herb Chicken pizza:

It was Josh and I's first time actually making pizza dough so we were a little nervous.  We were worried for nothing because it came out great!  We just followed Tammy's recipe, and walla!!

......You wake up early Sunday morning, head to the coffee shop with your honey, and relax.  Well I relaxed, Josh studied his financial jargon.  For fun. Yikes.

exhibit C:

Hope ya'll had a fabulous weekend!

My best friend

I'm not sure why today I felt like blogging about Kate, but somehow I felt compelled to do here goes.

I never knew my best friend was missing until my freshman year at LSU.  Now, I had best friends, friends, acquaintances, but didn't find my "sista girl" until college.

It was spring semester at LSU, and my roommate and I moved dorms at the semester change.  It was the best idea we ever had because our new dorm was filled with amazing people I will always treasure.  Casey (my roommate) and I moved into our new dorm and were met with a warm, friendly greeting by our floor ladies and one in particular stood out "so to speak".  Her name was Kate, and she was actually from the same town I was from.  We went to different high schools though, so we never met until LSU.

From that moment on, Kate and I were attached at the hip and went through many a memory.  We shared everything, and I knew from then on that I would have a sister for life.  Through boys, setbacks, late night runs to Cane's and Blockbuster, school, through everything... I had someone that truly had my back (and vice versa).

Our senior year, we decided to move to New Orleans to finish up school, and so we started our new journey.

So life went on, and everything was great.

Until June 20, 2008.

The day that changed Kate's life as well as mine forever.

I will never ever to this day forget this horrible day.

Kate was coerced into going to a wedding in LaPlace with a guy that wouldn't take no for an answer.  Kate was so sweet that she gave in, even though she really didn't wanna go.  When she left she turned around and gave me a hug before she left, and I headed over to Josh's house.

Everything was fine...

Until I didn't hear from Kate.  I knew something wasn't right when I hadn't gotten a text or call from her in over several hours to gossip.  Then around 10pm Kate's mom called me hysterical to say that Kate and her date were hit head on, and she was at the hospital in Baton Rouge.

       I was paralyzed.

Josh had to physically pick me up off of the ground and put me in his truck to go to her.  We got to the hospital first, and waited patiently to see my best friend.  Once the Dr. let me go back to see her I will never forget how she looked.  She looked like an angel.  Not one smear of makeup on her face, and just a teardrop on her cheek.

We spent all night in the waiting room with Kate's family wondering why...

(Kate never met a stranger.  Her sense of humor was contagious, and was always a bright light in so many people's lives.)

I left the hospital that night in shock.  Josh held me for hours that night, keeping me from going insane.  I cried and cried until I couldn't cry anymore.

I mean, how could I go back to our house?  Those next weeks were AGONIZING.

Kate was taken up to ICU where I would visit to hold her hand.  I cried for days.

She was in a coma for months, and had sustained a severe brain injury in which no one knew what was going to happen next.

Kate eventually was airlifted to Shepherd's Center in Atlanta (specializing in traumatic brain and spinal injuries) where she went through months of rigorous therapy.

Kate had to relearn EVERYTHING.  From speaking, to walking, to eating.  EVERYTHING.

My heart ached for her and still aches to this day.

Since Sherpherd's center, Kate moved back with her family where she still lives to this day.  She attends therapy several days a week and has worked up to a college course a semester.

I wish I could correctly articulate how I feel about the whole situation, because my heart BREAKS for her.  I cannot imagine how it feels to want all of the things a 25 year old wants, but unfortunately has such a huge setback that she fights against every day.

I'm sure I left out MANY details and probably haven't done this story justice, but just know that she has come SO far, she is an absolute miracle.  Who I love very much.

I often wonder where we would be if that horrible day never happened.

Ugh, I'm crying just writing this post because every time I talk to her or text her, I feel her pain and frustration.  Awful.  Absolutely awful.

Poor thing has to exert so much energy into everyday tasks that we take for granted.

I pray everyday that she can move on with her life and have everything that she's always dreamed of.

Now, if you have made it this far, you deserve a medal.  It's so cathartic writing this post because unfortunately it's so hard for me to talk to friends/family about it still.

Thanks ya'll.

Before the accident.  Goofballs!

I was so honored that she was in my wedding.  She walked beautifully down the aisle.  A walk that she had practiced so hard for :).
