New Orleans style iced coffee

New Orleans coffee rocks.

No, but seriously.

If I could hook myself up to an IV of it I would.

There is NOTHING better than an iced coffee from Community Coffee (better known as "CC's").

If ya'll ever do mosey on down to New Orleans, be sure to check out the Community Coffee house on Magazine Street. This cute little place is always PACKED.

You can walk up and down Magazine Street shopping at all of the cute little shops, and then settle down for some coffee at CC's.

   Win/Win. Yes?

(cute little shops and restaurants)

 BUT

You wanna know what doesn't rock?

When your new home does not have anything remotely CLOSE to what you used to drink from the homeland.  Sad stuff ya'll!
Hello North: Coffee should not look like tea.  I'm sorry, but it had to be said!

MOVING ON....

So on my quest to replicate my beloved "New Orleans style" iced coffee, I decided to start making it at home.

I'd like to give a shout out to my parents who continually send me countless care packages of coffee.  But for others without family in the area, coffee brands like Community Coffee, PJ'S, CDM, etc. can be purchased online.

Okay, so here is how I make my iced coffee:

PREP WORK:

Drink wine.  It makes it better, promise. :)

Ok, so I use a cold brew/drip coffee maker.  You can find them at BBB, Target, Walmart, Tuesday Morning, etc.  I found mine at Tuesday Morning for 6.99.  Totally worth it.

Cold drip concentrate is crucial in making a really yummy iced coffee.

(Ratio: 1 cup coffee to 2 cups water)

Exhibit A:

OR....

If you don't have this contraption, you can also just use a measuring cup or jar filled with 2 cups of water to a cup of coffee.  Stir, and leave over night or for a minimum of 8 hours.

Exhibit B:

Once this mixture has set for 8 hours or so, stir again and  strain the concoction.  You can use the coffee filter basket from your coffee maker, or you can use a sieve with a cheese cloth or coffee filter.  And walla!  You have your cold drip concentrate for your iced coffee.

Putting it all together:
  • I fill my glass about 1/4 of the way with coffee concentrate (depending on how strong you want your bev)
  • The rest of the way with milk or cold water
  • I put two tablespoons of flavored creamer, sugar free syrup, or condensed milk
  • Ice
  • (sometimes I will take some of the concentrate and make ice cubes out of them so when I go to make my coffee I don't have to worry about it getting watered down.)

Yum x100

Not only is it yum x100, it's also wallet and hubby approved. :)

Hope that y'all enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!!

  1. Hey! Thanks for checking out my blog! It's always a definite plus to meeting other Louisiana bloggers :)

I'm not a big coffee drinker but seeing that pic definitely makes me miss home & New Orleans. You can't find that kind of atmosphere anywhere else in the world.

It was great to "meet" you. Come back & see me sometime :)
